PENTRIDGE
PRISON.

My favourite cartoonist Jeff Hook. A photo I took
of the cemetery when Pentridge was opened to the public..

Pentridge during the 'Pentridge Unlocked' period.
Pentridge after the destruction began.

May 2009. Do you like the way they 'keep' the bluestone by surrounding it with
concrete walls?

How
would you like to live where so much suffering took place?

The old control 'watch' tower still stands guard despite the changes
below...Heritage Victoria, the department who care nothing of our past.

The irony here is that after this destruction they added banners with images of
Ned Kelly!
WHERE WERE THE BONES OF NED KELLY?

Last Chance to Visit Pentridge
Tenders for the redevelopment of the former Pentridge Prison site at
Coburg close on 17 March, and the next few Sundays are the last chance for the
people of Victoria to visit the site before its redevelopment.
Jesuit Social Services have appreciated the opportunity of organising
educational tours of the site since early last year, but there are still many
people, including our friends and supporters, who have not yet taken up the
opportunity.
One of the highlights of the tour is the opportunity to visit Ned Kelly's grave
site. His remains were relocated to the Pentridge site after the closure of the
Old Melbourne Jail in the 1930s.
The tours are conducted with the assistance of a large number of volunteers and
we are greatly appreciative of the enthusiastic assistance they have provided.

Tours are conducted on Sundays, from 10 am to 5 pm, and there is no need to
book. Evening tours are available on Thursday evenings and booking are essential
for these night tours. Big Brothers-Big Sisters are receiving the proceeds of
the night tours and for booking purposes please call:
Tel 03 9427 7611.
