Lauriston was one of the towns where Harry Power robbed travellers whilst being
assisted by a young Ned Kelly.

George Metcalf, wounded at Glenrowan lived here.

(Nothing much of the original town exists today)

Today (10 Feb) I spent the day in the gold fields and remnants of the town of Lauriston.
I fossicked around the mine shafts digging up a large amount of unusual nails all found
in one place.

I walked across the old wooden bridge that Harry Power and Ned would have crossed in
their time visiting the town. (with Ned learning to be a bushrangers assistant)

I learned that a couple of the buildings on the main road are original, with the Bakery
being relocated to its current position. Many thanks to the owner of this little building for
allowing me inside and to take photos.

It is hard to imagine that Lauriston had thousands of inhabitants, mostly miners including
many Chinese.
