The use of poison features in the story of the Kelly Gang.

After the battle at Glenrowan the pockets of Joe Byrne were searched,
inside authorities found a small packed of poison.

It was assumed that Joe had this poison as his means of escape from the police
if necessary.

With the deaths of both Dan Kelly and Steve Hart it was thought that perhaps they had
swallowed some form of poison considering their bodies did not appear to have suffered
any noticeable wounds.

Whilst Ned Kelly was being held prior to his execution it was feared he may cheat the
hangman and he was searched for any possible poison.

The Kelly dogs had to be muzzled to ensure that they did not take the poison police had put out to
stop their dogs alerting the family to the presence of the police.

Interestingly someone poisoned a dog belonging to policeman Sgt Steele.
